So I’m on the radio today with my friend and DJ extraordinaire Susan Darrow at KPFT in Houston, TX doing a little promo for my gig this Thursday at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck, and Susan says, “this being the time that so many Texas musicians get out of the heat and travel to places like where you live up on Vancouver Island in Canada, why are you coming back to Texas now?”
Ray Wylie used to call it a “booking coup.”
I am, of course, joking. This coming Sunday I really wanted to be at the Saxon Pub in Austin for the owner Joe Ables’s 70th birthday party. So I booked a few gigs around it to help ease the cost of the plane tickets and travel, and we can all celebrate Joe and I get to play for some great folks - despite the heat. I lived in Texas for 20 years; I can take it.
So — quickly. A week in hot hot Texas, then a month on Vancouver Island and one weekend in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A. in the middle!

Thursday night at Houston’s finest, McGonigel’s Mucky Duck I’ll be doing the early show at 7pm.
Friday night I’m heading to Leander for “Live At The Coop Presents.”
Saturday evening is Wimberley, TX for a show at “The Purple Barn.”
Sunday morning around 11am I’ll head over to The Center For Spiritual Living ATX to take part in their “Beatles Month.”
Then I’l head to The Saxon Pub for Joe Ables’s big birthday bash, then play with my old pals The Resentments at 730pm.
Monday night I’ll be at The Backstage at El Mercado South for the Sunday Night Supper Club. This week featuring myself, Monte Warden, and hosted by Ben Jones.
Then I spend another full day flying home before I start it all over again!

A multi-instrumentalist and slide guitar virtuoso, be it studio work or performing as part of a band, Jeff has been about as in-demand as any musician can be. Plankenhorn combines a broad array of genres from soulful rock and folk to blues, country and bluegrass all with his skilled take on the Plank, his laptop steel.
Opening is singer songwriter Sergio Martinez
A $25 donation is requested by the artist. BYOB and a folding chair.
