"Plank - Live at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle, WA '24" - I like that title.
Lately I have been hard at work on the road and writing for my upcoming recordings, and "things" happen and sometimes get in the way of what I want to use my patreon page for. Ideally, it's about new music for you every month.
Due to a Canadian strike by the mechanics of WestJet (which they have every right to fight for their worker's rights in my opinion so no bad blood there) I ended up having to buy a completely different airline's flight to make it in time (there goes another $500). It happens, but the strike only ended yesterday, and I am stuck in San Francisco from Canada Day (July 1st) to Independence Day July 4th! I was here and yesterday was able to open for the always phenomenal Ruthie Foster in Nicasio, CA about an hour and change from here, and even though the venue paid handsomely for the support slot (Rancho Nicasio, a beautiful venue and setting in the Redwoods which I now LOVE) I knew this one-off gig would be literally for exposure, and I'd lose a little dough after flights and hotels and such.
100% worth it! The legend that is Maria Muldaur, myself, and a few others sat in with Ruthie, and the band was slammin' as always. I made a ton of fans, and sold a lot of merch, got a lot of names on the mailing list and a very heartfelt request from the owner and the promoter to come back on my own.
I live a charmed life people, and I am really used to airline mix-ups these days. I really don't let it bring me down (to coin a phrase). More time to read, write, and take stock of the wondferul life I get to lead.
However, after my hour an change drive back to the hotel I was greeted with a late night notification my flight's cancelation and that I would have to wait 4 days to fly home!
Last night I spent about an hour online and on phone trying to find another airline that could get me back but alas, I was too late and every single airline was booked up until the 4th. So now I'm down another $500 for the hotels plus all my original costs, yada yada yada boo hoo.
After dropping off my rental car and checking into my hotel that I will be living in by the airport for 3 more days, I realized I hadn't done my due diligence for the page here! The light bulb goes off...
Instead of one song I'll give you, my supporters, a full opening set from the Tractor Tavern in Seattle (another great venue I've played in on my own and with others for over 20 years), recorded by Stan Orlowski. Stan had never heard of or met me before and was there to record The Sadies - Neko Case's backing band who are brilliant on there own and had packed the joint. Colin (sorry I don't know his last name!) from the Tractor did an excellent job mixing me, on-the-fly, without even a full soundcheck! Thanks Colin for giving a shit. Not all would have.
Stan came up to me during soundcheck and asked if he could record the set. I get this offer a lot, and it almost never sounds worthy of sharing. He was really excited afterwards, bought a vinyl copy of my album at the merch table and asked if I wanted a copy of the show. It had felt like a pretty decent set so I said, "absolutely; one thing we all need right now is — content." I didn't think much of it.
He sent it to me a week or two ago and I was really surprised that it sounded pretty dang good for live recording "in the room." Not only that, the vast majority of the people in attendance had never heard of me, and they were enthusiastic and attentive; I must have been doing okay.
I've spent an hour here in the Best Western editing out my usual loquaciousness and fading up and down between tracks. Turns out it's a pretty good little show!
So, you get seven songs instead of one this month, I was not able to separate them into tracks, so it's all one. As an mp3 it's only around 89MB I think, so not a huge file. Here's the track listing - hope you enjoy and I'm going to get back to stoking the fire for the next two days, writing and maybe even relaxing a bit.
Things happen, especially with airlines lately. All in all, you know how I feel — grateful as all get out.
I see an old movie in my future tonight. Maybe, "Voice In The Crowd." I always love that one.
Here's the track listing...please enjoy

Of course they are loving you! You are extremely talented and REAL! Sorry about the extra days in California. We would take you in if here in New Braunfels. Bet you could even get a gig or two, or maybe, just sit in the pool and watch the Sunset. Take care Friend. ~ Love Is ~
Nice! So sorry you’re stuck in a hotel for 3 days, though. I hope you find some fun things to do. Hugs…
