For those of you who follow or are reading here on my patreon page, (patreon.com/jeffplankenhorn) today I will be adding a patreon only exclusive video from a solo gig I did at The Pershing in Austin last month. It’s a tune I don’t know why I played - I haven’t played it in AGES. It just felt like a fun opener to this event. It was 1pm and I was the second act to play, on an indoor stage, for a pretty massive joint benefit for Blackfret and Community First! Village. It’s an old song, possibly the first I co-wrote with Ray Wylie Hubbard. I put it on my “Live At The Saxon Pub” album with an absolutely stellar band (the late/great Yoggie Musgrove, Phil Redmond, and Brannen Temple). On to the touring!
Got a call from Ruthie Foster’s team a few weeks back, wondering if I would be interested in opening the show at The Heights Theater in Houston and The Kessler Theater in Dallas. I knew I would have to make a special trip to Texas, but Ruthie and I have been friends for a long, long time. Long before we recorded “Like Flowers” together as a duet on my SoulSlide album of 2016. So I added a few shows before and after — Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston, The Saxon Pub on Sunday night services with my “band that isn’t a band” The Resentments who I’ve been a member of for over 12 years, and “Monday Night Supper Club” with Barbara Nesbitt and Ben Jones at The Backstage at El Mercado South where I’ll be filling in for Pat Byrne.
Then onto Montana and Wyoming!
