Last year around this time I wrote a little piece on how cool it was to be invited and then perform at my very first “songwriter festival.” The idea was unknown to me for a long time, and I now hope I get to do at least a few of these every year. Yellowstone Songwriter Festival in Cody, WY was my first, and the one I returned to last week. It was every bit as memorable and I loved it just as much if not more so.

So many great songwriters and performances from all of the US (and Canada thanks to my new adopted home). All over town music could be heard, and stories were told. This town gets behind this festival so wonderfully, and I know I speak for all of us when I say we are so grateful to everyone.

If you are interested in going to one of these festivals or becoming a sponsor please check out

Myself, Grace Morrison and her husband Scott, Brooks Forsyth, and Jackson Emmer were all treated to the hospitality of Al & Laura Swett and stayed at their airbnb guesthouse that they donate yearly to the festival for the songwriters who attend. The above video was my little idea. After Grace and Scott took hit the road for their long journey back to Cape Cod, MA, I was sitting at the kitchen table and quickly penned a little ditty. Brooks came back from an errand, Jackson came upstairs from something he was working on, and they both helped tighten up a line or to and arrange the mini-song “thank you” to the festival, Al & Laura, and the lifestyle we love.

I sincerely hope I get asked to more songwriter festivals. If you know of one I should try to get booked at please reply to this email and I’ll send it over to my fabulous new booking agent. penelope@blackoakartists.com

Moving on to this week in Montana!

I get to perform with Tom Catmull & Quenby Landiorio in Missoula. Then Quenby and I again in Emmigrant.

Saturday I return to Jimmy’s Roadhouse in Red Lodge and then do an afternoon performance with Lee Calvin at Craft Local in Billings. These are two of my favorite venues anywhere.

Oh and if anyone is interested in being an executive producer on/donate to my next album that I will be recording in The Netherlands in October, please reply here!

See you in Montana this week!
