Sitting here at 8am in Nashville, a modest condo that belongs to a friend of my manager, with a bit of “text neck.” I’m drinking coffee I made filtered through a paper towel because yes, I remembered coffee, but not filters at the grocery when I got in last night. Hoping the bleach on the towels doesn’t mess me up too much. I have a few more things to do in Nashville this weekend.
visit my friend Jaimee Harris today, have lunch and hopefully play some pinball
play “Finally Friday” on WMOT from 3rd & Lindsley at noon central
play and host a song swap at the Bluebird Cafe Friday night w/Jaimee, Bill Lloyd, and Amy Speace (pretty stellar lineup I’d say)
head back to 3rd & Linsldey to sit in with the Long Players and sing a couple tunes by The Band as they recreate the “Brown Album” with a slew of heavy hitters.
Then it’s off to Texas…
Greenville — Temple — Houston — New Braunfels — Austin
I’m getting on with my manager in an hour, and need to try to get some form of exercise before staring my day. Who knows what kind of Nashville fried ecstasy will be staring at me as I try desperately not to gain any more weight on this run.
“This is the day, of the expanding man. That shape is my shade there where I used to stand.” — from “Deacon Blues” by Steely Dan (specifically Donald Fagen and Walter Becker)
I have been having some real wins with this new album, and not just the many stellar and humbling reviews I’ve racked up since it’s release a few weeks ago. The reaction to the tunes when I play live is truly the best I’ve ever had. I look forward to playing them for anyone reading this when I come to your city.
Radio is moving slower, streaming as well. But the word is spreading…
When will I get back to writing? I am really tired of “me” again. There’s a reason that a post with me holding a Chicago Dog (with what most likely is celery salt in my beard in to two places - oops) gets exponentially more likes than the many pictures of me with a guitar, or in a studio pose, sharing information on my many gigs! Oh to have Alice to post just to give a break to the monotony of social media marketing yourself. How about now?
Come on, who wouldn’t rather see that? But I have to post multiple times a day already because I’m working my tail off. “First world problems,” I know, but a little boring.
Thankfully, what I really do, make music and play it for people, is such a joy. In just one month I’ve been on programs like Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, The Great American Folk Show (that airs on Saturday the 21st), WDVX Blue Plate Special, and the afforementioned Finally Friday on WMOT Nashville, plus a slew of great radio stations along the way.
If people aren’t hearing me and the new album, as they say, “it ain’t for a lack of tryin’.”
I dig the troubadour life, I’m away from home more than I would like, but they have me working to get the word out on the new album and I am grateful to have such a knowledgeable and capable team working my record. My manager John Porter, my indie label Blue Corn Music, the radio and publicity folks (Devious Planet rules!), and of course - all of you.
So come out to one of these Texas gigs and don’t forget this is about to happen…

Michael O'Connor and Jeff Plankenhorn will be on the road together again, in March of 2024 - still kickin'. Between the two of them, they have co-written, played, and sung on enough albums to program at least a solid week's worth of Grade-A Americana radio. On that station you'd hear many of the biggest names in Texas music of the last 25 years, from Ray Wylie Hubbard and Joe Ely to Terri Hendrix, Slaid Cleaves, Ruthie Foster, Adam Carroll, Patty Griffin, and Malford Milligan. But in addition to being two of the best guitar-slinging songwriting cats in the Americana music world, they're both lifetime performers with critically acclaimed solo careers of their own. O'Connor's heartstring-tugging tenor vocals bring a disarming warmth to his gritty Gulf Coast blues, with lyrics inspired by a lifetime of hard-won life experiences both on and off-stage giving him a keen insight into the world of the rough, the faithless, the romantic, and the unlucky — all of whom find refuge in his songs. And Plankenhorn (or "Plank," as he is affectionately known in music circles) has a soulful voice as resonant as his renowned slide guitar playing — both perfect instruments for his stirring blend of not just roots, rock, and folk, but gospel, bluegrass, and Motown. Plank has an Austin Music Award under his belt as well as being 2018 major grant recipient from Blackfret. Side by side, trading songs and stories back and forth with the natural easy and familiarity of blood brothers in arms, they put on a show not to be missed.
Their "limited edition” CD version of the new album, Nothing More To Prove - will only available at shows in Texas.
Their previous CD. Nothing To Prove - is only available physically at shows in Texas. It is available worldwide - digitally.

Does it mean anything really that The Ryman Group bought ACL? Just noticed that a few months ago at the bottom of the show announcements at ACL Moody
