Nobody ever said it was easy, but I still say it’s a charmed life.
I’m stuck in LAX. My flight from Vancouver to LA was a breeze. Quite comfortable actually. Last night my flight to Austin was canceled and I was forced to find a hotel. Thanks to my deft use of apps and nimble texting fingers I was able to find a cheap (but relatively clean) hotel literally 5 minutes from the airport, and rebook my way to Austin. However that meant getting up a little before 4am, and means I now have to connect through San Francisco. Still I won’t make it to Austin until 4pm if I’m lucky because the flight from San Francisco to Austin is already showing a one hour delay as well!
My mood changes as quickly as the music on the loudspeakers changes from James Brown’s “The Big Payback” to Brittany Spears’s “Toxic.”
I am a spectator to a carnival of attractions. The many a weary traveler, the full and plentiful cots given along with cheap blankets to couples in the front corner out of eyeshot, the occasional sad but somehow understandable fool who thinks yelling at the attendant at the kiosk is going to change anything at all, and the child with the most depressed face you have ever seen as they sob into their gaming device.
This is all “par for the course.” I’m on my way, and Texas I can’t wait to see you. Time to board for San Fran…

A multi-instrumentalist and slide guitar virtuoso, be it studio work or performing as part of a band, Jeff has been about as in-demand as any musician can be. Still, after roughly twenty years shining for other artists, Jeff cut the cord and transitioned from sideman to solo artist. Plankenhorn combines a broad array of genres from soulful rock and folk to blues, country and bluegrass all with his skilled take on the Plank, his laptop steel.
